Are you planning to commute to Edge Hill? No problem. We\u2019re easily accessible via multiple modes of transport, so you can reach us from wherever you\u2019re travelling from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plan your journey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re local to the Ormskirk area, you may have an idea of where you need to travel to which can put your mind at ease. If you\u2019re new to the area, you should plan your journey in advance, so you know where you\u2019re going on the first day of your studies. This isn\u2019t compulsory of course, but you may feel more confident about where you\u2019re going if you do a practice run beforehand. A good way to do this is to attend one of our events. If you hold an offer to study with us, you\u2019ll be invited to attend one of our offer holder days. You can also attend one of our open days or campus tours<\/a> too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local area<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Edge Hill is at the heart of a historical, rural town \u2013 Ormskirk<\/a>. Renowned for its gingerbread and surrounded by beautiful nature, Ormskirk is the place to be. It\u2019s often pointed out that we\u2019re a small town, which may be true, but the community feel is strong and makes us feel larger than life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ormskirk is home to many independent shops, caf\u00e9s, and bars for you to enjoy if you have time in between lectures. Or they\u2019re a great place to meet up with friends at the end of the day before you leave to go home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And our historical gingerbread links make us unique. You just have to try some, if you can. The perfect place to try some is at Ormskirk\u2019s famous market which is held twice weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Spare time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Depending on where you\u2019re travelling to and the mode of transport that you need to use, you may have some spare time whilst you wait to begin your journey home. With everything in one place at our campus, you can put your spare time to good use. Whether you want to hit up the library to complete some reading or join in one of our student life activities, you\u2019ll find something to fill up your time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another perk of commuting using public transport is that you can use this time however you want. Perhaps you have some reading you need to catch up on. Or a podcast you\u2019d like to listen to. Or maybe you have some notes you need to write up. Your commute to and from university could be the time to do this. Then you\u2019ll have some more free time at home to relax and spend time with family or friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Making friends<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A common misconception about commuting to university is that you won\u2019t be able to make as many friends as you leave campus at the end of your study day. But this doesn\u2019t have to be the case. Here at Edge Hill, we have a number of initiatives to help you make those connections right from the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commuter breakfasts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Every Tuesday and Thursday between 8am and 9am, you can grab a free tea or coffee and a snack to start your day the right way. Exclusively for commuting students, you\u2019ll get to meet and chat with other students who also commute to university. It\u2019s the perfect way to give your mind a rest before you head to your lectures. And it\u2019s a great way to make new friends. You never know, you could realise that you share the same journey too.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Student Life Portal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Once you\u2019re a student, you\u2019ll be able to sign up to our Student Life Portal. This is the place to find out about all that\u2019s happening on campus. And you can get involved even if you don\u2019t live in halls. Events take place at various times throughout the year, and you can find out about them in advance with the portal. So you won\u2019t miss out on a thing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Car share scheme<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To park at our Ormskirk campus, you need a parking permit. These are free but you must meet the eligibility criteria and they don\u2019t guarantee a parking space. One way to guarantee your parking spot is to car share with a friend. If you sign up to car share, you\u2019ll be able to carpool with other students who live in your area. So, you can build a friendship whilst saving you both some money as you split the fuel costs.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Managing your money<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a commuting student, you\u2019ll want to get to us quickly so that you have more time to study, but you may also want to travel cost effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Railcards<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019ll be travelling by train, you may be eligible to purchase a railcard. Railcards can help you to save money on your travel, which means extra pounds in your pocket. The most common railcard among students is the 16-25 Railcard <\/a>which cuts a third off all UK train travel. And if you\u2019re a full-time student over the age of 25, you\u2019re still eligible to apply for this Railcard so you can save on travel too.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Travel passes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re going to be using public transport multiple times throughout the week, it may be worth checking whether there are any money-saving passes to purchase. This will depend on your route to Edge Hill. But think about looking for daily, weekly or monthly passes that may save you some money in the long run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edge Link bus (EL1)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re using public transport to get to us, it\u2019s likely that you\u2019ll be dropped off in the centre of Ormskirk. While it\u2019s just 10-minute walk to our campus, there may be times when walking isn\u2019t an option. But don\u2019t worry, we have our Edge Link bus that\u2019ll bring you right onto campus. And even better, it\u2019s free when you show the driver your student ID.<\/p>\n<\/div>
