The parents and their children joined in with an action-packed day of escape rooms, society workshops, student finance discussions, campus tours and myth busting conversations with University staff and current Edge Hill students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edge Hill University was chosen by the Parent Power Oldham families because of its welcoming reputation, commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and the University\u2019s track record of teaching and supporting students from underrepresented student groups, such as mature students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tim Roe, Widening Access Officer at Edge Hill University, said: \u201cIt\u2019s been an inspiration to see how the parents have achieved so much through collaborative community organising, despite the challenges of the pandemic. To welcome the families here to Edge Hill for a campus visit was a huge honour.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lead Organiser for Parent Power Oldham, Najma Khalid said: \u201cIt was an amazing open day at Edge Hill University for parents and children of Parent Power Oldham.  The Edge Hill team was brilliant, welcoming, extremely informative, organised and engaging.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere was a real buzz on the day. A very special thank you to Tim Roe and the Edge Hill team for such an amazing opportunity.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The University\u2019s\u00a0Widening Access and Student Success Team<\/a>\u00a0helps develop and support the knowledge, confidence and attainment of students from underrepresented groups who perhaps may not consider Higher Education as an option for them, or may need more support in their journey to University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Heather Lloyd, Head of Access and Participation at Edge Hill University, said: \u201cThrough our Access and Participation Plan, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, the University has been bold in its ambition to enhance the experience for our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic student community.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe University was privileged to welcome Parent Power Oldham, an active community group passionate about higher education, and who strongly believe that higher education brings the best out of any child. The group seeks to help families overcome obstacles to social justice, so they can achieve their ambitions no matter who they are, or where they live.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
