Governance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our research governance policies help researchers to meet the high standards required under the UK Concordat to Support Research Integrity<\/a>. They ensure research is high quality, rigorous and carried out safely and responsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In line with this, we produce an annual statement on research integrity at EHU.<\/p>\n\n\n

Ethics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our ethics policies and processes protect everyone involved in our research – from participants to researchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have five Subject Research Ethics Committees, each providing specialist scrutiny and approval in their areas of expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These SRECs all report to a central University Research Ethics Sub-Committee which oversees research ethics and research ethics policy for the whole University.<\/p>\n\n\n

Human tissue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We undertake ethically approved research involving the lawful storage of human tissue under the Human Tissue Act 2004<\/a>. EHU is licensed to do this by the Human Tissue Authority (HTA; licence number 12632).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our staff and students have to adhere to the Human Tissue Authority\u2019s guiding principles<\/a> when using human tissue. All human tissue donated to our research is a valuable resource and we are grateful to our tissue donors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Human Tissue Quality Manual governs the acquisition, use, storage and disposal of human tissue under the licence. The Human Tissue Management Sub-Committee provides training and support, and monitors compliance with the manual.<\/p>\n\n\n

Contracts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The University enters into all sorts of research agreements with other bodies. These include, funding, collaboration, non-disclosure, consultancy, licensing, material transfer and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By involving the Research Office before discussions begin<\/strong>, we can ensure these agreements are suitable for the research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
