Sustainability has always been at the heart of what we do. Not just in the role we play in creating sustainable communities through the provision of vital qualified public service staff such as teachers, nurses or operating theatre staff but also as a major employer and consumer of resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edge Hill University has been providing Higher Education for more than 125 years and currently offers over 200 degree courses to over 14,000 students.

The University takes great effort and pride in designing and building new facilities of the highest quality not just in aesthetic terms but in the sustainable way in which those buildings operate.

We are also working hard to manage the impact of travel to and from the University and to reduce the size of our carbon footprint. Edge Hill University is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2035 for emissions scopes 1, 2 and 3. The commitment was made on 20\/03\/2023 by the Board of Governors.

In everything we do we are committed to improving the environmental performance of the University for the benefit not just of those currently engaged with the University but those students, staff and other stakeholders who will be part of our wider Edge Hill Community in the future.<\/p>\n<\/div>

People and Planet 2025\/26 Results<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This year Edge Hill University has been ranked 64th<\/strong> and therefore awarded a 2:1 Class University<\/strong> status in the People & Planet University League<\/strong>. These results mark a significant improvement from last year, when we were a Third Class University ranked 112th<\/strong> in the league.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People & Planet<\/strong> is the UK\u2019s only comprehensive and independent league table ranking universities by their environmental and ethical performance<\/strong>. It is compiled annually by the UK\u2019s largest student campaigning network, People & Planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Policies, Strategies and Plans<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Edge Hill University’s Institutional Sustainability Policy clearly articulates the University\u2019s commitment to managing the environmental impacts of our activities. This is supported by our Environmental Sustainability Report, which reinforces the University\u2019s commitment to environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Environmental Sustainability Strategy translates these policy declarations into meaningful objectives and targets, and sets out how we intend to deliver these in the accompanying delivery plan. Updates will be provided against the delivery plan on an annual basis.<\/p>\n\n\n

Sustainable Development Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get involved<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Edge Hill University aims to increase awareness of environmental and sustainability issues by organising events and campaigns that enhance understanding and provide practical ideas and solutions that students, staff and the local community can benefit from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ach year we run our weekly Sustainability Fair which features a range of activities to demonstrate and educate around sustainability. This academic year the event ran for a week in November 2025 and featured Biffa waste, several of our energy management contractors, Queenscourt Hospice and the Horticultural Society. It was great to see so many people in attendance to learn more about sustainability at Edge Hill. Watch this space for news about the 2026\/27 events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
