Lorna, from Southport,\u00a0has always been\u00a0passionate about supporting\u00a0people who\u00a0haven\u2019t\u00a0had the easiest start in life\u00a0and,\u00a0aged 40, she longed to\u00a0put that\u00a0passion\u00a0into action with a new\u00a0career.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She felt \u201cstuck\u201d because she didn\u2019t have the right qualifications to apply for a degree but once she heard about Edge Hill\u2019s free Fastrack course, designed to prepare people like Lorna for higher education, a plan started to take shape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lorna successfully completed the programme and went on to study an undergraduate degree in\u202fCounselling and Psychotherapy<\/a>, progressing to complete an\u202fMSc Psychology (Conversion).<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She now works as a senior psychotherapist at Wilderness Way in Penrith<\/a>, a provider of residential care for children who have experienced trauma, exploitation or crisis, and credits Fastrack with transforming her future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always been drawn to work that allows me to make a difference in the lives of people who may not have had the easiest start,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSupporting children felt like a natural calling. Children show incredible resilience, and when someone believes in them – even just one consistent adult – it can completely shift the direction of their lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWithout the Fastrack programme, I wouldn\u2019t have been able to build the career I have now, because I\u2019d never have known my own capabilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe course made me realise I had the capacity for learning and it built my confidence hugely. The lecturers were so supportive and knowledgeable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re thinking about changing your career but feel unsure, Fastrack is the perfect place to begin. I know how overwhelming it can feel when you\u2019ve been out of education for a long time, or when life hasn\u2019t taken a straightforward path – but that doesn\u2019t limit what you\u2019re capable of.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

During Lorna\u2019s studies at Edge Hill, she developed her theoretical understanding and practical skills, which prepared her for a rewarding role in child mental health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI support our clinical team to deliver highquality, evidencebased therapeutic care for vulnerable children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery day is different and we\u2019re all there to make a difference. Even the smallest wins can mean the world.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Edge Hill University\u2019s Fastrack programme<\/a> offers adults aged 21 and over the chance to access higher education, even if they don\u2019t currently hold the qualifications required. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The free full-time course begins with a oneweek induction, followed by six weeks of oncampus study designed to develop academic skills, subject knowledge and most importantly, confidence to succeed University level education.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
